Wrigley's Spearmint Gum - "Carry the Big Fresh Flavor" (Commercial, 1974)

By Wildcat in General 45 views 7th November 2019 Video Duration: N/A
Here's one of the more memorable (and oft-parodied) commercial campaigns for Wrigley's Spearmint Gum. This takes place in and around an airport, with flight crew and passengers carrying large Wrigley's Spearmint Gum boxes. Notice at the start, jet planes displaying the Piedmont Airlines brand (this Piedmont was in existence from 1948 to 1989, and subsequently absorbed by USAir; today's Piedmont was instituted in 1993).

"Carry the big fresh flavor, wherever you go, whatever you do."

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, January 12th 1974.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

Note: Click "Show More" for lyrics. Pilot was a rock musical group, formed during 1973 in Edinburgh, Scotland by the former Bay City Rollers members, David Paton and Billy Lyall. "Magic" was the first hit single for the group. It was written by Paton for their debut album. It charted most successfully in Canada, where it reached #1, topping the RPM national singles chart on 19 July 1975, and received a gold certification. It climbed as far as #11 on the UK Singles Chart and reached #5 during the summer of 1975 in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lyrics:

Magic (D. Paton / A. Parsons / EMI)

Ho, ho, ho
It's magic, you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe, it's not so

Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning
Lazy day in bed
Music in my head
Crazy music playing in the morning light

Ho, ho, ho
It's magic, you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe, it's not so

I love my sunny day
Dream of far away
Dreaming on my pillow in the morning
Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning light

Ho, ho, ho
It's magic, you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe, it's not so

[Musical Interlude]

Ho, ho, ho
It's magic, you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe, it's not so

The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling like thunder now
As I look in your eyes

I hold on to your body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

Lost is how I'm feeling
lying in your arms
when the world outside's too much to take
that all ends when I'm with you

Even though there may be times
It seems I'm far away
But Never wonder where I am
'Cause I am always by your side

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love

The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear suddenly
the feeling that I can't go on
Is light years away

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'm wanna do all that I can

(2x)
We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love

Of the power of love
Of the power of love

The final attack scene from the movie 'Zulu' in which the Zulu warriors attack the British garrison at Rorkes Drift one final time, but are repelled by the volley fire of the British soldiers. In the days before the machine gun, this technique was the most effective method against attack by overwhelming enemy forces. A superb scene from a superb movie.
