Well thanks to MadDad, I have found an update that has enabled the re-birth of IW4X for those who liked it in the past and maybe some new players going forward.
The details are as follows for playing this version.
You need to own the original MW2 on steam and have it installed on your PC. Run it once if a fresh install to make sure all dependencies are installed.
Go here and download the new launcher for IW4x Alterware
Place the launcher in your MW2 install directory and run it.
Select iw4x by pressing 1 and answer the questions, it is important to say yes to the Bonus-content download question as this will ensure you have all iw4x maps.
Once done the game will launch and have fun.
