Hi Folks
I thought I should check in with you all and let you know what is going on with the nuts and bolts behind the OGHF.
To begin with the website, as many of you may know the site currently runs on Joomla with a few extensions to create the social elements. Joomla is now at release 6 and the way our site works refuses to migrate successfully to version 6. So far I have managed to deal with the few issues this has created, however over the last few months some of the vulnerabilities have created issues for the running of the site. This means I will need to recreate it some how. That's not the work of a moment so I am considering my options.
When the new web solution comes online it will not be possible to port anything across from the old site, I will keep the old site available via a new URL as a read only site for those who may wish to copy stuff over.
The next issue is the dedicated servers that run the website and the servers are on operating systems that have an end of life of 2027, so they need to be upgraded.
And finally back in the day when I acquired the IP addresses for the servers they were free, in 2024 RIPE (The IP people) changed the fee structure, so the cost of the OGHF IP block is now way to expensive for the amount of servers we host. I need to adjust this but to do it we will loose our current IP's, therefore our game servers will end up with new IP addresses. This will mean they will drop out of peoples in game favourite lists. Prior to changing the IP's I will advertise the new ones in game via the B3 bot.
Finally I have had various requests to change certain in game features, these will happen as the above changes happen as once all of the above is done it should see us through at least the next 4 years or so.
That is the news for today...
I am feeling a proper old git now as by the time this is all done I will have 3 Grand children. One of which will be Dedly's, I can't believe that when I started the OGHF in 2008 he was just a little gamer who wanted to venture into the world of online gaming and now he is going to be a Father. That's what time creates I suppose.

Core Servers for CoD: 4 are the TDM and FFA.
Maybe have 1 bot Server, just so we can have a space to go have some fun before people join the main servers
Core Servers for CoD: WaW I am un-aware of, but since I have a new laptop I will be re installing WaW, so I can go play some games with the "REAL" men and women behind [OGHF].

I agree with M4N1C about reducing the amount of bot servers for CoD4, they are reducing the footfall on the main servers. TDM was in the top 50 for years but of late that is not the case. Many a time i take a look and what was once a fully populated server now sits empty half the time, the only consolation is that a few of our main regulars then populate FFA.
i think the tdm needs a new mod just to keep up . me and have been talking about this just this week.i think we all get on TS and have a good chat on this one
