For all of us OSX users out there... if you don't have another option to play the game, DO NOT UPGRADE to Catalina, it will render COD4 unusable. See Press release COD4 and Catalina.

I have reached out to them to see if I can get a steam key for my Apple Store version of COD4, will post results.

Hello Aspyr Gamers:

We have an important update on macOS this year, which may impact your Aspyr library. As you have likely heard, Apple has announced that it is ending support for 32-bit apps in future operating systems (macOS Catalina and above) starting this fall. While all of our 32-bit games will continue to function on macOS Mojave, we’ve decided to remove these games from sale by the end of the day today (6/17/19). After today, the entire library of Aspyr titles on Mac will be 64-bit or will receive a 64-bit update before September.

For players who choose not to upgrade to Catalina, your games will continue to work and play just as always! So keep calm and game on. All your purchases on the App Store are linked to your App Store account, and you’ll be able to keep playing as long as you continue to use macOS Mojave.

For Steam players, if you stay on Mojave, you will be able to access your 32-bit Aspyr titles purchased on Steam. Alternatively, our titles all support SteamPlay, so you’ll be able to continue playing on a PC and/or Linux machine. We will continue to support our 32-bit games on Linux, so if you have any issues please reach out to our support team via support.aspyr.com.

Even with this change, it’s important to note that many of the titles we offer today are already 64-bit or will be by September, and will work on Catalina (and beyond) upon its release.

Thank you for understanding why we had to stop selling these games, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us via feedback@aspyr.com.

Thank you,

The Aspyr Team

I'm keeping an eye on this, as I will lose my Adobe CS6 suite as well :(
My workaround is Parrallels
Yes, it will mean having to repurchase COD4 and start as a newbie again, but I've been running it for around a year so I can use my old Corel programmes and it's fantastic!
The speed and performance of a Mac in Windows, and there's no rebooting required - it runs like any other app, so it can be minimised in the background while you do other stuff.
That's the idea anyways ;)

Hey Thrasher,
I've posted this on another thread, but figured you may have an answer for me, so I've copied and pasted here.
Talking about reinstalling COD4 on Parallels....
I'm not on Steam, but it has occurred to me that if I were I wouldn't lose all my rankings with a new install - or would I?
Is there a way to merge my current profile with Steam to avoid that?
Or am I screwed regardless?
If I reinstall on Windows and start gaming from scratch, even my xlrStats are going to disappear, aren't they?
Is there any way to preserve my rankings using Steam or elsewhere?

I am up the same river, and no paddle I am afraid.... it seems that the only way to retain your stats with an Apple Store version of COD4 is to maintain your current OS and not upgrade, if you must upgrade you could create a new partition for the Catalina install and import over your stuff, then keep the current partiion to game. It's a workaround that only works if you have enough disk space to maintain dual installs of OSX (10.14 and 10.15). Hope this helps. The other option is to install steam, buy game, start over... which I have though of doing, as this provides mobility between the OS's Mac and Windows.

Ok, so start as a noob again.
Partitioning my drive is not an option.
So Steam is the way to go?

I think of the options I looked at, but have not committed to, steam is the most likely route for me. Just don't wanna start all over.

I was actually trying to find a way to import a profile on the Mac from app store to steam... wasn't having a good time of it. Also, I emailed the developer and asked if they would provide a key for steam... got nothing but crickets. So I imagine it is wait for a sale, and buy the game AGAIN... this will be at least the 4th time. lol.

SUCCESS!!!
I just gamed on Windows (Parallels) with full rank (5 stars)!
I have all my weapons, but I have to rebuild my custom slots, also lost my attachments (red dot site eg) for some reason so will need to earn those again, but otherwise we have a solution to our dilemma ;)
Read this post - particularly the 3rd section about swapping key codes

You can find your key codes on both installations under multiplayer Options > Enter Key Code.

In short, copying your profile folder over to the new installation isn't enough.
You have to copy your old key into the new install, save & exit, then update the profile folder, then enter the new key again, then without exiting you have to game a bit so everything gets locked in to your profile.

I still have a few glitches - some weird lag where everything happens 1 second late - probably a setting I have to tweak, but I'm pretty chuffed right now :)
Let me know how it goes.

I'm just not sure if Parallels is the best way to game.
I have a bit of lag that I could probably get used to if I have to that I suspect may be related to the fact that I'm gaming on a virtual machine.
My issue is that I work from home, so I always have one eye on my inbox while I'm gaming, and I often leave between maps to check what's arrived, then log back in and carry on gaming, so a boot partition isn't going to work for me.
It could also just be that I'm not used to my weapons yet - it feels like I'm wearing someone else shoes ;)
I'll carry on testing it for a while and see what I can find.
Is there a way to check on XLRSTATS if todays gaming history is logged?
Curious to know if I'm still picked up, or if I am logged as a new player?

FYI, I also copied my mods and usermaps folders over, so my custom maps don't have to reload.

I'm committed...
Removed COD4 from my Mac today.
Managed to sort out the lag issue by setting Parallels optimised for gaming only, disabling Windows Defender & Firewall, and making sure I have all unnecessary programmes on the mac off.
Parallels also say that gaming performance should improve with Catalina because of something or other that Apple is introducing with that release, so we'll see.

Oh, and the trackpad wasn't working now that I'm gaming on Windows, so hooked myself up with a magic mouse 2, and the learning curve continues.
Once I've gotten my eye back in and gotten used to the mouse, I'll be deadlier than ever! ;)

Upgraded to Catalina this morning.
Gaming was a bit weird - I ended up fiddling with my mouse sensitivity because I couldn't hit anything.
Seems a bit better now, but I still can't hit anything :D
Maybe it's the hangover...

But there ya go, I've pulled the trigger and jumped into bed with the devil :p

Hi Grim, let me know how you get on with this, toying with the idea of a dual-boot Mojave and Catalina but not too keen to restart each time I want to switch. Have you tried other VM's like VirtualBox or Horizon?

Hey Butch,
no I haven't.
To be honest, everything else seems fine on Catalina, though it is still early days.
The issue I'm having with COD on Parallels is noticeable lag that wasn't there before.
I originally had this issue but managed to sort it out by setting Parallels up for gaming and switching off Windows defender and Firewall.
I need to go back in and check that these settings are still in place, just haven't had the time yet.
All the online literature indicates that Parallels should be better for gaming than ever with Catalina, so I haven't given up hope yet.
I'll keep you all posted ;)

**Edit
Went through all my settings and nothing had changed.
But Parallels has feature called "Re-install Parallel Tools" which is a fix-all for a number of glitches - screen rez breaking, losing desktop (Mac) items, etc
I ran that and popped onto COD and it seems to be better.
Maybe 0.3s lag vs 0.8s lag which is the difference between playable and non-playable.
I'll only know when I next game in anger, but it seems much better.
